8. Keichu's Wheel
奚仲の車輪
【公案】
Getsuan said to his students: "Keichu, the first wheel-maker of China, made two wheels of fifty spokes each. Now, suppose you removed the nave uniting the spokes. What would become of the wheel? And had Keichu done this, could he be called the master wheel-maker?"
月庵が学生たちに言った。「中国で初めて車輪を作った奚仲は、五十本づつのスポークで二つの車輪を作った。ここで、スポークをつなげている軸を外すとする。車輪はどうなるだろうか。もし奚仲がそのようなことをしたら、車輪の達人と呼ばれるだろうか。」

When the hubless wheel turns,
Master or no master can stop it.

※Keichu's Wheel（タイトル）：「奚仲造車」
※Keichu... made two wheels of fifty spokes each：原文の「奚仲は車を造ること一百輻」は、たくさんの車を作ったというほどの意味と思われる。
